History of Le Tour de Langkawi
Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), named after the archipelago Langkawi, is a multiple-stage bicycle race held annually since 1996. It was brought to life by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad with the goal of putting Malaysia on the map of world sporting events and tourism.
LTdL involves various top cycling athletes and teams from all around the world who race across various steep climbs, sprints, and gorgeous scenery. The exciting 2024 version brings the competition against the remarkable landscapes and lush greenery of Langkawi as well as several other cities around Malaysia.
What to Expect of LTDL2024
With this year's tagline ‘Beat The Heat’, Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 is set to kickstart from 29th September 2024 to 6th October 2024. There are up to 8 stages - the first route will begin at Langkawi and will end at Bintulu, Sarawak.
It will be Sarawak’s first time to host the race in its two major cities - Miri and Bintulu, as well as Kulai, one of the cities in Johor.

Other than Le Tour de Langkawi 2024, there’s another exciting event coming up in Langkawi which is Ironman 2024 and is held on 12th October 2024. Ironman is an international triathlon that involves a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride, and a 42.2km run.
The winner of the triathlon will be known as the IRONMAN finisher. On top of that, the winner will also immediately qualify for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
